BOISEN - For the love of place
Who: Martin Boisen
Martin Boisen is a Danish geographer who achieved his MSc degree cum laude at the University of Utrecht. He lives and works in the heart of the beautiful city of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Martin is a leading advisor, a respected academic and a passionate speaker.
By applying strategic marketing, planning and branding wisely he and his company focus on making towns, cities and regions better places. As his company works with many different types of places, on different scalar levels – ranging from the street level to metropolitan regions – and in different countries around the world we are curious how Martin will introduce us to his theoretical perspective and show us his passion and love for cities.
Marketing Groningen develops the marketing strategy of the city and province Groningen. Their task is to reinforce the attractiveness of Groningen among (international) visitors, residents, companies and talent. They are doing this by using an inspirational brand, through network activation, by facilitating and connecting, by providing a (digital) infrastructure and through appealing campaigns. The slogan Groningen uses, 'Er gaat niets boven Groningen' (engl. Nothing tops Groningen), is one of the most famous slogans of the Netherlands. Destination marketing is part of the broader concept of city marketing. An integral concept in which not only tourism, but also education, culture and economics are important elements. After all, the Groningen brand aimed at the tourist cannot be seen separate from the Groningen which focuses on potential students, employers or new residents.
Locatus data helps you to choose or invest in the right retail locations. Locatus gathers its own data on all shops and consumer-oriented service companies and makes this information accessible for its clients through an online database. In 2000 they started with the registration of all stores in the Netherlands and they have been expanding their database since, first to Belgium, and lately to the larger European cities.
Locatus' field workers conduct an annual on-site survey of all the shopping areas to keep the data up-to-date. Every chocolate shop, clothes store, supermarket, hairdresser, pharmacy, tattoo shop, greengrocer, bakery, furniture seller, vintage store, or restaurant, in (or outside) every city, town, village, or hamlet in the Benelux can be found in their database. The Locatus database provides property-level information, such as the name of each outlet, its retail floor area and the retail sector in which it operates. Furthermore Locatus' record information about shopping and catchment areas and footfall. This information is also available on digital maps. Locatus is market leader in the field of independently sourced retail information in Europe.
