Hey!
My name is Max de Jong and I will be the next External Relations officer of the MARUG Board 2026–2027. I am currently studying Business Administration at the University of Groningen. My hobbies include surfing, going to the gym, and spending time with friends. I am someone who really values social connection and good company, but I also enjoy building relationships, taking initiative, and challenging myself beyond my studies.
A few years ago, I moved to Groningen to start my student life, and from early on I noticed that I really enjoyed being active outside of my studies and contributing to something bigger. Throughout my time as a student, I discovered that I am especially motivated by working with people, creating valuable relationships, and exploring professional opportunities. As I continue developing myself both personally and professionally, I am excited to dedicate a board year to a new challenge: MARUG.
Although I had already been familiar with MARUG, everything truly started to fall into place after having coffee with Jorrit and David, the current External Relations officer. Talking with them about the board year, the opportunities within External Relations, and hearing more about their experiences gave me an even clearer picture of how well this role suits me. Their enthusiasm, combined with my own passion for relationship management and strategic growth, made me even more excited about pursuing this position.
Not long after, I found myself genuinely enjoying the process of preparing for the interview and working on the case. Rather than feeling like an obligation, it confirmed to me how much energy I get from strategic thinking, partner relations, and finding ways to create value. That was the moment I knew for sure: I wanted to become the next External Relations officer of MARUG.
For the upcoming year, I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to contribute to MARUG, strengthen partnerships, build new connections, and make the most out of this unique experience. I am looking forward to challenging myself, growing professionally, and making this board year an unforgettable one.
